Greetings from Arts Health Antigonish and All of Us Society for Art Presentation!
AHA! and ASAP are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a workshop over the weekend of May 22-24, entitled “Bring Out Your Inner Artist!”, featuring the multi-talented visual artist, educator, and poet, Rose Adams.
This workshop series will include an opening talk on the evening of May 22, featuring Rose’s experience as an artist in residence working at the QEII Memory Disability Clinic. This will be followed by a series of three workshops on the topics of finding your own creative process, drawing out your inner artist, and depicting in a hands-on workshop the theme of “Horizons”. There will also be a Saturday evening open mike event, complete with savories, sweets, tea and coffee, at which Rose will share her poetry and painting stories and encourage others to tell their own stories of art and life and healing
We hope you’ll set aside time for this exciting weekend.

Program May 22-24, 2015. Antigonish
Friday Evening: PERCEIVING DEMENTIA THROUGH AN ARTIST’S EYES
Visual artist and educator Rose Adams will share her story of being an artist in residence at the QEII Memory Disability Clinic. Her power point presentation will chart the stories of the patients she met, and how she represented their experiences with dementia in her artwork. She will show how she has continued to explore issues of the brain, memory and anatomy in her artwork since that experience. There will be opportunities for audience interaction and dialogue at the end of her presentation.
Time: 7:00-9:00 pm
Location: StFX Art Gallery Admission by Donation

Saturday Morning: FINDING YOUR OWN CREATIVE PROCESS
Through an experiential exercise, workshop participants will be encouraged to identify and explore their own creative process. Every participant will be creating a spontaneous work of art, craft, or design from a “kit” of assembled materials, which each registrant will be instructed to bring with them after ransacking their recycle bags or even garbage bins!
Absolutely no experience necessary, but this workshop is limited to 20 people, so register early!
Time: 9:30am-12:00 noon
Location: StFX Art Gallery $20

Saturday Afternoon: DRAWING OUT YOUR INNER ARTIST
This workshop will consist of a series of exercises that will have you drawing in two extremes: first, with emotive mark-making and fast collective drawing, and then slowing down to really see and get into the “drawing zone”. These energizing and highly creative exercises are of Rose’s own design, but the slowing down exercises are gleaned from Betty Edwards’ Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain.
This workshop is also limited to 20 people, so please register.
Time: 1:30 pm-4.00pm
Location: StFX Art Gallery $20

Saturday Evening: POETRY AND PAINT
This evening event will be part story, part poetry, and part visual art. Rose will be presenting a “dialogue” between her drawings/paintings/art and her poems, and will be projecting visual images of paintings and drawings that have some relationship to her written work. She will then open up the mic for others to show their own visual images, or read poems, or simply share their life stories about art, life, and healing.
A generous selection of savories and sweets will be included in this event, plus tea and coffee.
Time: 7:30 pm-9:30pm
Location: St FX Art Gallery Admission by Donation

Sunday Morning: MENTAL HEALTH AND NEW HORIZONS IN ART-MAKING
This final workshop will link to a project held annually at the Craig Gallery, Alderney Landing, now in its 17th year. Participants will create their personal works of art on 6” x 6” tiles, which will then be sold to benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association. A variety of materials will be provided for participants to work with during the workshop. The theme of this year’s Mosaic sale is “Horizons.” The squares will be provided and the finished squares can be picked up at a later date. Rose will bring brochures and other information about this event.
This workshop is also limited to 20 people, so please register.
Time: 10:00am-12:00 noon
Location: StFX Art Gallery $20
