POSITION TITLE: Arts Canopy Arts Facilitator

Hours and Term: approximately 8 hours weekly for 10 weeks (with an option to renew)

Supervised by the Arts Canopy Project Coordinator and the AHA! Leadership Team

POSITION SUMMARY:

Arts Canopy is a community-based project offering arts based programming to those living with dementia, with the goals of encouraging social engagement and communication through the arts. Four ten week sessions will occur in the community over the course of a year, with artists of various genres delivering programming at community sites. The Arts Canopy Arts Facilitator will design and implement arts based programming for elders with dementia for a 10 week term beginning July 1, 2016.  They will plan and record outcomes with the mentorship of the Arts Canopy Project Coordinator and the AHA! leadership team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and deliver, with support, arts-based programs for elders with dementia

  • communicate regularly with the Arts Canopy Project Coordinator regarding need for supplies, support, challenges and opportunities
  • evaluate and report on the programming outcomes, supported by the AHA! Leadership Team and the Arts Canopy Project Coordinator

SKILLS /COMPETENCIES:

Understanding of the value of the arts to wellbeing

Strong arts facilitation skills

Experience interacting with elders with dementia, an understanding of dementia

Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills

An ability to work independently and be accountable for all actions and decisions, with a high degree of initiative

Creative and innovative thinking, adaptable

Team building, leadership and/or organizational skills
