Arts Health Antigonish (AHA!) invites applications for the part-time, 4-5 month term, contract position of Childcare Consultant. Arts Health Antigonish (AHA!) is a collaboration of artists, health care workers and educators, who, for the past ten years, have fostered creative expression for community health in the Antigonish area. AHA! creates arts-based programs for those in our community with less access to the arts and engages in research and advocacy that further an understanding of the value of engaging in the arts for personal and community wellbeing. A lack of childcare in the Antigonish area has been identified as a significant barrier to healthcare worker recruitment and retention, and to the wellbeing of local families with young children. We are seeking a consultant who, with the aid of community stakeholders, will document the extent of this challenge and propose potential solutions based on global best practices in childcare.
Major Responsibilities and Deliverables:
- Need: Outline the current extent of the childcare challenge along with its impacts on the healthcare workforce. Projection of the need (numbers and space) in the next 5-10 years for three age groups (infants, toddlers, after-school children). Create an overview of the cultural diversity within the local healthcare workforce, documenting the cultural needs in childcare. Explore hours of operation required for childcare for healthcare workers.
- Barriers/problem-solving: Document the barriers to accessing childcare. Identify potential new or expanded childcare sites; consider regulations concerning new or expanded spaces. Explore workforce solutions. Explore global best-practice models in childcare.
- Proposal: Propose potential solutions to the childcare challenge (space, workforce, etc.).
Requirements:
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Strong knowledge of NS childcare/early childhood education sector and regulations; knowledge of healthcare sector is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of appropriate computer technology & programs (virtual meeting platforms, Microsoft Office, etc.)
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely records.
- Able to work independently and with a team.
- Responsibility and accountability for actions and decisions.
- Knowledge of various global models of childcare is considered an asset.
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to beginning employment.
